Question Teak seedlings from Assam

Teak(Tectona grandis) cultivation is very old in Assam and the tree is similar to Teak tree found in Burma/Myanmer.
ASSAM TEAK TREE SEEDLINGS ARE AVAILABLE IN BARE ROOT FORM AT SILCHAR,ASSAM.(Rs6 to Rs7 + courier charge).
I suggest 50% Teak and another 50% Gamori(Gmelina arborea) so that one can harvest Gamori in 6th year or so and Teak in 12th year or so.
The spacing may be as follows or otherwise
1)5 metres x 5 metres spacing:The plants may be planted in 5 metres apart in lines and row. This will give 160 trees per acre
2)5 metres x 4 metres spacing:The plants may be planted in lines of 5 meters apart and in lines, the trees may be planted at every 4 metres. This will give about 200 trees per acre.

Default Teak Plantations

Dear Ankit,

Your choice of teak plantations is good. But the plating material is be purchased from Asam is very waste.Somebody stated that one stump of teak is Rs 7/-per stump +re1 courirer charges. But we will get plenty of teak stumps fro tamilnadu i.e Cuddalore area. The size of stump is pencil thicness.and the rate is below One rupee. In Dindigul area Thumb size stump is Rs 2?-per stump. So you need not approch silchar,Asam. If you want teak stumps in bulk I will arrange. But usually i never suggest the seedlings planting in teak.Because you have wait for nearly minimum 30 years. After completion of 30 years you will go for cutting the grown teak tree. But you wnt get minimum Rs 10000/- per plant.Due to these aspects you never prefer the seedlings/stump planatation. The better yield and assured income will be done by tissue culture teak plantations.

If you plant tissue culture tealk plant you will get minimum rs 10000/-per tree. This is assured income per tree.

Question The price of tissue cultured teak saplings offered by Mr A Shivkumar?

Mr Ankit,
Mr A.Sivakumar did not disclose the price of tissue cultured teak(Tectona grandis) saplings.Tissue cultured teak plants can be harvested after 12-18 years. You must ascertain before buying in which tissue culture laboratories the saplings are made and how long they are hardened. There are a few laboratories in India which make tissue cultured teak plants.Mr A Shivakumar should disclose the name of tissue culture laboratory from which he obtains his tissue culture teak saplings.
I do not sell anything.I talked about Assam teak seedlings in bare root form,NOT STUMP (Assam teak stumps are available at cheaper price) because these teak trees have big leaves and are same as Burma teak grown in Myanmer(formerly Burma).People have been planting these Assam teak seedlings or stumps in thousands of hectares and the state governments are encouraging.Who we are to say this as waste ?
Since you are in Madhya pradesh, you may contact
State Forest Research Institute,Jabalpur for teak seedlings/tissue cultured teak saplings ? /teak seeds.

Note to Moderator A :I think the websites of govt institutes should be allowed.Govt institutes will not be business member and farmers should know about these govt institutes.Whenever I have mentioned the websites or the adresses of a govt institute or govt university ,you have delated the information.Do you think it is right?

Default Tissue culture Teak plantations

Dear Pharmadig,

Thank you for information in the site.I am also not blaming you and also discourage. You are telling Burma Teak .I think Teak is one variety but it differ in growth rate ,setting of heart wood, Dimenstion of tree size and cft of timber place to place. But here what i feel and telling ,by planting tissue culture Teak saplings the setting of heart wood is 70% minimum.By opting and seleting seedlings /stump planting is it possible?.The setting of heartwood is deciding factor of price of Teak timber. If we plant seedlings /stumps I think surely the heart wood portion will be minimum 30%An account of this the farmers will not get better price during the harvest period. And also you have quoted that we have wait for 12 to 18 years.Ok by planting seedlings /stumps how long we can wait for Harvesting?.You know veener approch grafting method and epicotyl grafting, softwood grafting in fruit plants like mango, sapota ,ground layers in guva, airlayers in pomogranite, and cloning in melia Dubia/eugaliptus .These methods are invented for what? For reducing the cultivation periods and better yields.I have quoted all spices are having seeds .If we go for propagation of seedlings by seeds. What is result ? kindly tell me your opinion in this regard.

thanking you

yours in green revolution

Dear Mr. Sivakumar!

You have mentioned that a tissue culture produced teak tree has a better market price than a stump produced tree. Can you please provide information about the % difference between the price of tree produced from tissue cultured plant and trees growing from stumps. Please also provide information about difference in initial cost.

Thanks & Regards,

You have asked that tissue culture teak timber will get better? Definitely because generaly timber value depending upon the setting of heart wood portion (i.e in Tamil vairam,Sevu).its possible in tissue culture Teak saplings up to 70%.At the same time the timber of seedlings/stump teak plantations is 30% or less than 30%.Now you tell which one is get better price?

thank you

Dear Mr. Sivakumar!

I am not disputing that tissue cultured trees proviode better output.
As you are dealing in Tissue Cultured Plant and have experience with the same, I want to understand the real difference in price. For example, you mention at some places that a plantation grower can get Rs. 10,000 per tissue cultured tree but that is not the case with normal seedling generated trees. Hence, I want to understand if the seedling grown tree will sell for Rs. 3000, 4000, 7000 or 8000.

Further, if a teak tree was planted 10 years back using tissue cultured stumps, will it fetch Rs. 10,000 per tree today at today's market price?
