Default Super Sweet Apricots

Ben-Dor fruits from Israel have begun the marketing season of Aromacot – an apricot with 50% more sugar than ordinary apricots. The Aromacot family includes several varieties in orange, red and yellow colors – a different one about every 5 days, as they ripen.

If you have a sweet tooth but are looking for natural “candy” instead of artificial sweets, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Aromacot apricots from Ben-Dor Fruits in Yesud Hama’ala. Now appearing in the market, this apricot has an outstanding sugar content – about 50% higher than an ordinary apricot (16%-20% compared with 10%-14% in regular apricots).

The flavor of Aromacot apricots is a delicate balance between sweet and tart, especially suited for those who find that ordinary apricots are not sweet enough. The flesh of this juicy apricot has a strong aromatic fragrance, combining the taste of the traditional “baladi” apricot with a new, modern taste.

The Aromacot family consists of several varieties in orange, red and yellow tones, each appearing for about 5 days in the order of their ripening. The first variety in the series ripens in May and the last arrives on the shelves in late July.
According to agronomist Ilana Shabbtai, director of variety development at Ben-Dor Fruits, future developments will focus of aromatic varieties that ripen earlier or later than the ordinary ones.

Ben-Dor Fruits of Yesud Hama’ala specializes in developing and marketing special fruit varieties. It markets its fruit in Israel and exports abroad, most notably to the leading chains in England. The fruit is grown in the Hula Valley, known for its rich, fertile soil, and the high-quality fruit grown there.
