Melia Dubia (Hebbevu) cultivation

The melia dubia cultivation is very familier among all farmers & public.Really the melia dubia is very fine tree variety in india. Melia dubia is the very fast growing variety in the universe without adopting any high technology.The ordinary seedlings is enough for cultivation.The major drawback of the melia dubia is the germination.The seeds are very very hard nuts like Rudraksha .So the melia dubia will takes minimum 8 to one year for germination.But its not beleivable .This is true.And also the melia dubia seeds will not germinate at once or at a streth.if we put some thousands of seeds we will get some 20 seeds will get germinated .So we cant get thousans of seedlings.The melia dubia plant grow very fast.This plant attain the DBH on completion 6.5 to 7 years minimum 100 cms maximum 150 cms.The density of the tree will be 330kg/cubic meter.The melia dubia is very opt for biomas energy product.The caloric reading will be recorded as 5100 calories.

1. How much land is required?

• The total area to be cultivated is solely dependent on the farmer. However, for bio-mass power generation, the minimum area should be 500 acres.

2. What is the Water availability? is that required regularly or need basis?

• Melia Dubia (Hebbevu) needs water regularly for it’s growth. Twice a week irrigation is adequate.

3. This plantation is suitable for dry land?

• Dry land with irrigation is ok.
  
  

4. How about the initial investment and maintenance expenses?

• For 1 acre, the initial investment would be around Rs. 18,000.

5. Where can i get the seed or small trees to start planting in my land?

• You can not think of seed propagation since the germination is rather lowest. You must go for saplings. We can supply the saplings.

6. Your details on pros and cons and difficult times where you faced to take such projects ahead?

• The idea to go for this plantation is good. You may be aware, the Karnataka Government has banned the planting of Acacia and Eucalyptus trees effective March 1, 2011. Moreover Melia Dubia is the fastest growing tree.

7. How about the demand for this Heebauv currently and 8-10 years down the line?

• The demand is already there. Everyone should bear in mind that the demand for timber will always remain or rather will increase. Timber is the only commodity, the price of which never diminishes because of the simple fact that one cannot grow forests overnight.
• The existing forest cover is diminishing rapidly.

We are from Mysore-karnataka, we have Hebbevu saplings.our contact number is [9880589787]

You can plant melia dubia[Hebbevu] to any number of acres according to availability. Though the trees are drought resistant, water if provided in proper quantity, u can expect good results in growth. It can be planted in dry lands also but proper irrigation needs to be provided. Do not allow water to stock as the tree is suseptible to Root Rot. The expences incurred usually would be to buy melia dubia saplings, initial irrigation , Pits, and labor for these activities.
Once all the initial set up is through then only minimum maintanance and monitering is required. The tree has so many benifits and hence will not have any problems selling these trees.
