Hi,
I am looking at buying some land in Uttar Pradesh.
I have inquired with several people and everybody gives me a different figure for beegha to acre conversion.
Some have said 8 bighas make an acre, some say 6 or 2.
I am really confused.
Do you guys know how many beeghas make an acre in UP.

Measurements of land
1 Acre = 4 Bigha 16 Biswa (4840 Sq.Yds)
1 Bigha = 20 Biswas (1008 Sq.Yds)
1 Biswa = 50 Sq.Yards
1 Ghatta = 8.25 feet
Hope this answer your question.
Regards,
Mangla
How many Bighas in 1 acre ?
In Western Madhya Pradesh it is 1.75 bighas per acre i.e 4 bighas in 1 hectare. So much difference ?
Pabpab
forget bigha, or ghatta or biswa or what so ever. remeber acre. 4047 sq meter is one acre. it is recognised notonly all over india but all over the world.
In west U.P. & Uttarakhand one bigha(also called Katchcha bigha) is of 816 sq yards. So in one acre there are aprox 5.9 bigha(4840/816).
Seeing the other responses to your message, it is clear that the traditional unit of measurement "beega" done in your region is not standardized. Hence, my advise to you is to go by the more conventioanl unit of measurement i.e acre which is universally accepted and more importantly standardized.
