14 days agri training in israel beginning from 26th Aug 09 mail on "gentlebombayite@gmail.com "for details. The topics are--basics of israeli agriculture, protected cultivation, irrigation, dairy, polutry, bee keeping and cotton growing. The faculties are professors and growers themselves. It will be followed by field visits. Only 15 vacancies in a batch.


HOW STUDY OF ISREALIS AGRICULTURE WILL HELP INDIAN FARMERS?


Introduction: -It is established fact that Israel is the leading nation in field of agriculture. As much as 55% of the Israel’s area is under desert. The average rainfall in other parts of the Israel is less than 400 mm. The scarcity of water and the climatic variations posed the challenges to the Israeli farmer. Water constraints and varied climate have stimulated the development of unique agro technologies. The innovations always take place in constraints. The Israeli farmers with the help of scientists, extension advisers and agro industries have changed the desert into the crop production. Only 20,000 farmers, who comprise 3% of the total population, not only feed the complete population of Israel, but also export agricultural commodities worth 15,000 cores annually. Today, one full time farmer supplies food to more than 100 people

GREEN HOUSES:
Lac of good soil and water led Israel to develop green house technology useful for high value crops . The green house systems includes specialize plastic films, hitting and ventilation system where Israeli farmers grow more than 3 million roses per ha per season and average of 300 tons of tomatoes.

DAIRY INDUSTRY:
Israelis dairy industry employs advanced technologies that hasrevlotunized this
Industry. The average milk production per cow annually is close to 11000 liters.



POULTRY:
Israel has develop innovations that have contributed to improved production and greater efficiency .Breeds developed in Israel are climate extreme, have rapid growth rate, fat meat and disease resistant. The equipments in use are automatic egg collector, poultry drinking systems and durable plastic flooring that contribute to hygienic conditions in poultry houses. In order to maintain optimal sophisticated climate, control systems maintains desired levels of humidity, heat, lightening, ventilation and cooling 24 hours a day.

IRRIGATION:
Israel is the world’s most advanced user of irrigation, with half of all agriculture land under irrigation, the irrigation industry in Israel has been a pioneer in developing innovative technologies and accessories like drip irrigation, automatic valves and controllers, media and automatic filtrations, low discharge sprayers and many sprinklers, compensated drippers and sprinklers. The computer controlled drip irrigation saves huge quantities of water and enables delivery of fertilizers with the irrigation. More than 80% irrigation production is exported.


SEEDS:

Israeli seeds and seedlings are in high demand; disease resistant varieties with good storage quality and suitable for variety of climatic conditions are under development in Israel’s research institutes and at private companies. Some 40% of tomatos in green house in Europe utilize seeds of tomato hybrid with long shelf life developed and produced in Israel. Other successful developments are seedless watermelons, resistant squash, high yield cucumbers, soccer-shaped yellow zucchini and fibers, high yields water resistant and naturally colored.
