INDIA’S BIGGEST AGRO TECHNOLOGY FAIR TO BE HELD IN CHANDIGARH FROM 1 DEC – 4 DEC, 2006

Agro Tech 2006, India’s Premier Biennial Agro Technology Fair is being held in Chandigarh from 1-4 December 2006 and will showcase the latest in agricultural technology, products and allied services. Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the mega event also features 7 concurrent International Expos and 6 International Food & Agri Conferences, covering different sectors of agriculture and related economy, which are likely to spur agri-sector growth in the country.
The Vice President of India, His Excellency Mr Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will inaugurate this mega event in a colorful function at 1500hrs on 1 December 2006. The Chief Ministers of Punjab & Haryana, senior functionaries of CII, representatives of various Governmental and Non-Government Organisations and Private Sector Industry relating to agriculture will also be present on this occasion.
Agro Tech 2006 is spread over a huge overall area of 28,000 sq. metres - 16,000 sqm of exhibition space and 12,000 sqm for Agri Services Showcase at Parade Ground and Circus Ground in Chandigarh.
The theme of Agro Tech 2006 has been identified as “Technology in Agriculture: Growing Farmer Wealth”. Agricultural renewal or the Second Green Revolution is possible only when affordable and practical technologies permeate to marginal farmers, leading to substantial increase in rural incomes. The Agri Services Showcase 2006, being concurrently held with Agro Tech 2006, is the manifestation of the theme of the mega event. The showcase will feature country’s apex educational, financial and research institutes that will share knowledge and technical expertise with the farmers visiting Agro Tech 2006.

Indian farmers are all set to benefit from the Dutch expertise in innovative cropping systems, floriculture, dairy, poultry, fishery, quality systems, logistics and chain management, cost reduction systems as The Netherlands is the Partner Country for Agro Tech 2006. Australia, Canada, China, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, South Africa and Wales are other countries that are participating. The State of Uttar Pradesh is the Partner State for Agro Tech 2006 and states of Haryana & Punjab will be the Host States. Other states participating are Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttaranchal.

The main objective of four-day mega event is to increase knowledge dissemination, technology adoption and awareness creation among the farmers of Northern Region. It will help in identifying the areas of potential and inducing investment in agriculture and allied sectors in the region by way of 7 concurrent shows. It will provide an excellent opportunity to the investors, input manufacturers, agricultural traders for promoting their activities and products in the North including agro chemicals, agro fertilizers, horticulture, and floriculture.

CONCURRENT EXPOSITIONS
Agri Expo 2006, an international exposition on Agri Input Technology and Management, would feature the best of domestic and international firms engaged in horticulture, floriculture, sericulture, seeds, agro chemicals, agro fertilizers and pesticides etc.

Agri Services Showcase 2006, an exclusive exposition would display and demonstrate the various services now available to the Indian Agriculturist that would also include Farm Management Arena. This showcase would feature screening of agri films, kisan goshtis, demos of futures and commodity trading, internet transactions, finance and insurance options etc.

Biotech 2006, the first international exposition on Agri Biotechnology would provide an excellent opportunity to look at the next wave of biotechnology cutting edge applications in the field of tissue culture, hybrid seeds / grains & crops, bio fertilizer / compost, bio manures etc.

Dairy Expo 2006 would highlight the latest developments in the fields of dairy equipment & technology, genetic engineering, animal health, nutrition, products and processing amidst a host of other fields.

Farm Tech 2006: With 70% of its population engaged in agriculture and its allied activities India has emerged as the world’s largest agricultural machinery market. This Exposition on Farm Technology would feature latest tractors, farming equipments, forestry machinery, farm water supply equipment, crop processing and irrigation equipment etc.

FOOD EXPO 2006 would present the latest developments in food processing and packaging technologies in fruits, vegetables, beverages, fresh produce, prepared food etc.

Poultry & Livestock Expo 2006 would showcase the latest in Poultry Equipment & Technology, Poultry Management techniques, Poultry Products and services, Fishery management and breeding and Livestock management and breeding techniques and equipment etc.

INTERNATIONAL FOOD & AGRICULTURE CONFERENCES
Coinciding with Agro Tech 2006, CII would be organising 6 International Conferences on:

• Food Services & Retailing
• Public Private Partnership in Agri Infrastructure

• Biotechnology

Over 2,12,000 people participated in the Agro Tech 2004 and this number is expected to swell in Agro Tech 2006. The visitors will include farmers from all over India through the respective Organised Farmer Associations and State Administrations, CEOs/Decision-Makers, Buyers & Sourcing Personnel, Technical Experts, Contractors & Consultants, Ministerial & Trade delegations, Diplomats, Governments / PSU officials as well as Overseas & Indian Media.
