Default Increase Teak tree girth by pruning

I had come acorss an old article that one could increase the girth of a teak tree to 1 ft to 3 ft in 5 years by pruinng the top branches. Of course the height would remain at around 12 ft. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this?
