Is India really agricultural country???

Dear All..
I have learnt since childhood tha India is primarily an agricultural country. 70% population i.e. roughly 70 crore plus population rely upon agriculture and agriculture based products as their direct source of income..
It is a stark contrast to my observation, even though I respect statistics completely.
With the real estate boom and goverment policies of subsidising loans to promote agriculture, the concept of AGRICULTURE, and the GREAT INDIAN DREAM is backfiring.
All small time farmers and land owners are cashing upon this opportunity not by working hard in their lands but by selliing their lands and luring investors to purchase land with posts that say " land available", "attractive land near express highway" and all that just pains me.
I dont know how long will it be when India will have to start importing genetically modified food grains from the west and we start showing pictures of how our land used to be..
in the same way as we see glaciers today...
Sure India shining looks good, but not at the cost of depleted agricultural lands and malls filled with western produce. Our government policies too have to be monitored and one has to ensure that the implementations are not misused, so that tomorrow when I ste out of my home, I can smell the wetness of the soil in my garden and not the choking smell of cement quarry...
I have started my small step by sticking to Go Green in all ways always...
I have recently my manufacturing unit for Eco friendly Areca nut plates.. you may visit this page Sharadha Industries - Eco Friendly Betel Nut Plates and Bowls - EC Plaza
You can also be a part of the change by commenting to this post and also taking up small initiatives like this , because as it said
