It is difficult to say why biodiesel is more costly than mineral diesel, that includes a lot of reasons. I trust one of the main reason is people (USA/UK/EC) use edible cooking oils for making biodiesel rather than waste vegetable oils, that is why edible cooking oils especially palm oil are more expensive on daily basis in the past few months. Since this is the case, people also sell biodiesel along with market price thus the price is higher than mineral diesel in USA/UK/EC regardless materials are to be used . However, in most situation, biodiesel also sells below mineral diesel's market price as it is all upto the biodiesel makers. Just like some people sell jatropha seed/oil here high than gold price.

It is absolutely true that diesel cars can run with 100% biodiesel. It is hard to say the future of biodiesel but most likely it has a good future, as you can see the price of crude oil is already over usd100.00/barrel.

If you are interested in biodiesel, you should learn some more from your plant supplier or technical adviser.
