Hi,
Here is the information of mulathi
Botanical name: Glycyrrhiza glabra
Family: Leguminosae

It is a perennial herb
suitable for the subtropical and temperate regions.
In India it is mostly grown in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana.
Height of the plant is: 2m.
Flower coloyr: Lavender to purple.
Seed pod: 2-2.5cm long contains 2-5 seeds.

Varieties: Typica,( Spanish liquorice)
Glandulifera( Russian liquorice)
Violacea:( Persian liquorice)

Soil suitable: Well drained, fertile, loamy soil, Slightly alkaline, rich in calcium, magnessium
Rainfall: 500mm

Propagation: Seeds, Stolens(25 cm long with 2-3 buds)
Planting: Plough the soil in criss cross direction, incorporate 15 tones of FYM per hectare.
Keep the field irrigated until the stolens sprout.

Feb- march ideal time for planting.

It shows slow growth in the Ist 2 years.
Roots are dug after 3 years during winter.
Harvested roots and runners are cut into sections washed and dried upto 10% moisture.

Yield: Dried roots: 80q/hectare.

Liquories is sweet in taste and has a wide scope in preservatives, confectionaries and other sweet manufacturing industries.
